Question 1

Have you ever felt uncomfortable with the way you look as the bride of Solomon did in Song of Songs 1:6? Why do you think women obsess over their body flaws rather than enjoy the things that are right with their bodies?

So many things add to our view of ourselves. TV, magazines, stories and toys (Barbies & Kens) all add to the perfection or fairy tale endings. When you are brought up with the fantasy and then see it on TV it slowly becomes what we think reality should be. I think the beauty product industry has had an impact on many women. Especially nowadays, with botox and all the cosmetic surgeries plus the operations for weight lose like the lap band. I'm worried about the future of our young women. Thinking on this helps me see that my imperfections are what makes me who I am. I know healthwise, I need to exercise more, but it should not be to be a certain size just at a better level of health.

Women obsess over their body flaws because of the media. I also think a huge component to eating disorders and a negative body image has to do with feeling in control. Young girls feel lost and not in control of their lives, controlling their weight is something they can measure daily. They feel satisfaction from results. Soon they feel out of control if they are not obsessing over their weight. I think control has more to do with eating disorders than the media but I think the media plays a huge part in a negative self-image. I look at famous stars and think, "Wow, they look great. I wonder what they do to look like that." I exercise often and I try to eat healthy but I fall to the fast food and sweets. I feel guilty when I eat such terrible foods and I know it leads to a negative self-image.
